What We Do

At When I Met Dixie, we offer private, in-home companion visits with Dixie and her human, creating meaningful opportunities for connection through the comfort of a therapy dog. These personalized visits are designed for individuals who may not have regular access to a pet, providing moments of calm, joy, and companionship in a familiar environment. Whether easing loneliness, reducing stress, or simply brightening the day, each visit is centered on the healing power of the human-animal bond.

Who We Are

Background

When I met Dixie in 2021, I knew right away she was meant to be part of my life. I committed to 26 weeks of training so she could fit into my world, and along the way I discovered she had something extraordinary. Dixie loves people deeply and has a way of connecting with them that is hard to explain.

We became a nationally and locally certified pet therapy team and since 2022 we have completed over 100 visits with patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and hospice. No matter the age or background of the person we meet, Dixie finds a way to connect. I (Dixie’s human) decided to share her companionship with people who may not be reached through traditional therapy dog programs but who still long for the comfort of time with a dog. My role is simply to bring her to you.

In addition to private in home companion visits, Dixie is available to attend funerals or funeral related activities, like wakes, on nights and weekends. Her role would be to greet guests and provide comfort to those attending. Available upon request.

About Dixie

Dixie was born in June 2021 and has grown into a joyful, loving, and observant companion. Her coloring is called phantom, a unique pattern that makes her stand out. She is playful and smart, and one of her favorite tricks is showing she can read two words. Dixie loves people most of all, and her happiest moments are spent cuddling, being close, and connecting with new friends.
